Backlink

March 7, 2026 by jumedeenkhan

A backlink is a link from another website that points to yours. If a blog mentions your article and links to it, that link is a backlink from their site to yours.

Backlinks matter a lot for SEO. Search engines treat them somewhat like votes of confidence — if reputable sites link to your content, it signals that your page is likely trustworthy and worth ranking well.

Not All Backlinks Are Equal

A link from a well-known, respected site typically carries far more weight than one from a low-quality or spammy site. In fact, links from spammy sources can sometimes do more harm than good.

Some links also include a “nofollow” attribute, which tells search engines not to pass ranking credit through that link — commonly used for sponsored content, comments, or untrusted sources.

Earning Backlinks Naturally

The most sustainable way to earn backlinks is by publishing genuinely useful, well-researched content that other people want to reference. Buying links or trading them in bulk can violate search engine guidelines and lead to penalties instead of rankings.
