Glossary Terms

The Glossary Terms settings control how individual glossary entries are displayed and how glossary links behave throughout your website.

These options allow you to customize glossary term pages, improve navigation, and adjust the appearance of highlighted glossary links to match your website’s design.

Singular Label

The Singular Label adds a custom text before the title of every glossary term.

For example, instead of displaying only:

SEO

you can display:

What is: SEO

or

Glossary Term: SEO

This option helps visitors immediately recognize that they are viewing a glossary definition.

Show Back Link at Bottom

Enable this option to display a convenient link at the bottom of every glossary term page.

The back link allows visitors to quickly return to the main glossary index after reading a definition.

You can also customize the text displayed for the link to better match your website.

Add Title Attribute to Glossary Links

When enabled, Glossary Tooltip adds the glossary term as the HTML title attribute of every glossary link.

This provides additional information for browsers and assistive technologies, while also displaying a native browser tooltip when users hover over the link.

Open Glossary Links in a New Tab

Choose whether glossary links should open in a new browser tab.

Opening glossary pages in a new tab allows visitors to continue reading the original article while exploring glossary definitions.

If enabled, you can also specify rel attributes such as:

  • noopener
  • noreferrer
  • nofollow

to improve security and control link behavior.

Highlight Styling

Glossary Tooltip gives you complete control over how highlighted glossary terms appear inside your content.

These styling options allow glossary links to blend naturally with your website while remaining easy to identify.

Glossary Link Color

Choose the default color used for glossary links throughout your website.

Using your primary brand color helps glossary links feel like a natural part of your site’s design.

Glossary Link Hover Color

Select a different color that appears when visitors hover over glossary links.

A hover effect provides visual feedback and makes interactive glossary terms easier to identify.

Underline Behavior

Choose when glossary links should display an underline.

Available options include:

  • Always
  • On Hover
  • None

This allows you to match the styling of glossary links with the rest of your website.

Underline Style

If underlines are enabled, you can further customize their appearance.

Supported styles include:

  • Solid
  • Dashed
  • Dotted

You can also adjust the underline width and color to match your branding.

Best Practices

For the best user experience, we recommend the following settings:

  • Add a singular label if your audience is new to technical terms.
  • Display a back link to the glossary index.
  • Enable title attributes for improved accessibility.
  • Use your website’s primary link colors.
  • Keep hover effects subtle and consistent.
  • Use dotted or solid underlines for better readability.

These settings create a consistent browsing experience while making glossary terms easy to recognize throughout your website.
