The header is the top section of a website, usually the first thing a visitor sees. It typically includes your site’s logo, name, and main navigation menu.
Because it appears at the top of every page, the header plays a big role in helping visitors understand where they are and how to get around your site.
What Usually Lives in a Header
- A logo or site title.
- A primary navigation menu.
- A search icon or button.
- Sometimes a call-to-action button, like “Contact Us” or “Sign Up.”
Editing the Header
In modern block themes, the header is a template part you can edit visually through the Site Editor — changing the logo, menu items, or layout without touching any code. Classic themes usually handle this through the Customizer or dedicated theme settings instead.
