An attachment is any file you upload to WordPress — an image, PDF, audio file, or video — that gets stored in your Media Library. Behind the scenes, WordPress actually treats each attachment as its own post type.
That might sound surprising, but it’s why every uploaded file gets its own URL, title, and even an optional description, just like a regular post or page would.
Attachment Pages
By default, WordPress can generate a standalone page for each attachment, showing the file along with its title and caption. Many site owners disable this feature since it’s rarely useful and can create thin, low-value pages that don’t help SEO.
Managing Attachments
You can view, search, and edit all your attachments from the Media Library in your dashboard. Each one can have alt text, a caption, and a description — small details that matter more than they seem, especially for accessibility and image search rankings.
