Getting Started

This guide will help you install the plugin, create your first glossary term, and start displaying glossary tooltips on your WordPress website within minutes.

Glossary Tooltip automatically detects glossary terms in your content, converts them into links, displays informative tooltips on hover, and generates a searchable glossary index — all while remaining lightweight, SEO-friendly, and easy to configure.

Before You Begin

Before installing Glossary Tooltip, make sure your website meets the following requirements:

  • WordPress 6.0 or later (recommended)
  • PHP 7.4 or later
  • Administrator access to your WordPress dashboard

For the best experience, always use the latest versions of WordPress and your active theme.

Installation

  1. Log in to your WordPress Admin Dashboard.
  2. Go to Plugins → Add New.
  3. Search for Glossary Tooltip.
  4. Click Install Now.
  5. After installation, click Activate.

Once activated, a new Glossary menu will appear in your WordPress dashboard.

Create Your First Glossary Term

Creating glossary terms is simple.

  1. Go to Glossary → Add New.
  2. Enter the glossary term as the title.
  3. Add the definition or description in the content editor.
  4. Publish the glossary term.

Repeat this process for every term you want Glossary Tooltip to recognize automatically.

Configure the Plugin

Open:

Glossary → Settings

Here you can configure how Glossary Tooltip works on your website, including:

These settings allow you to customize highlighting, tooltips, glossary pages, styling, and performance.

Create a Glossary Page

To display all glossary terms on a single page:

  1. Create a new WordPress page.
  2. Give it a title such as Glossary.
  3. Insert the Glossary Tooltip shortcode.
  4. Publish the page.
  5. Select this page as your Glossary Index from the plugin settings.

Visitors will then be able to browse all glossary terms alphabetically and search them easily.

Automatic Term Highlighting

After creating glossary terms, Glossary Tooltip automatically scans your selected posts and pages.

Whenever a matching term is found, it will:

  • Automatically create a glossary link
  • Display a tooltip on hover
  • Link visitors to the glossary term page

No manual linking is required.
